Ally, Christopher Columbus & Coles St

Ran into our good friend Ally last weekend when we were out taking pics. Ally’s always had great personal style so when we saw her printed red spring dress we couldn’t resist a few quick snaps. Hi Ally!!!

Wanna  Go Steady?

Last night we got into a bit of an argument, as all couples tend to do. And despite all the anger and frustration we were feeling, we worked through it. Deep down we know we love each other but that doesn’t mean we’re always gonna “like” each other and that’s normal. And it’s okay. And it just means that we need to communicate better and remember why we are together in the first place (to double our wardrobe…kiddinggggg).

The point is, Dustony is a team! And looking at our blog is a great reminder of that. It’s began to chronicle our time together and show us the great things we can accomplish when we do them together. And that is something very special to us and we are very proud.

To all our followers, thanks for following us on this journey so far (oh  yes we did…!). We appreciate all the kind words and support over the past 6 months. You really help drive us to keep the blog going. So thank you.

The Winter Issue: Dustin

We’re still loving this camo shirt that Anthony wore in an earlier post so we decided to use it again for this outfit. Wait, is camo trending or something? Swear we didn’t know. At least it’ll help Dustin blend in with the #menswear community.

The Winter Issue: Anthony

Sorry to all the Dustin “fans” out there, but here’s a pic of the equally “sexy” Anthony. (I made Dustin write that - jk, wrote that mah damn self! who gon’ check me, boo?)

Freckled Magazine asked us to show off a winter look and I chose this outfit because I love “ugly” sweaters and bright colors, but mostly because it doesn’t make me look fat. #realtalk

The ski sweater was a great vintage find from a local store in Jersey City, Another Man’s Treasure. I say great find because this winter, nordic/ski sweaters were popping up all over the internet and fashion magazines by some big brands for quadruple the price of what I paid for this sweater. See here. And to me, nothing says “winter” like a good knit sweater. The bright blue scarf, purple saddle shoes, and green pants are not necessarily “winter” colors but it’s a great reminder that you don’t have to follow the rules all the time as long as you feel confident and comfortable in the way you’re dressed. And I felt pretty damn good (and warm) in this outfit! Shoutout to my hips for striking that pose. LOL I don’t know why I was standing like that but I’m not mad either.

Jacket - Triple 5 Soul #relevantbrandsintheearly2000s

Sweater - Vintage via Another Man’s Treasure

Denim shirt - CPO via UO

Pants - Levi’s

Shoes - Nordstrom 1901

Scarf - NYC street vendor (ahem, fell off a truck somewhere in Newark)

Blue skull bracelet - Scott Osterbind

Location - Jersey City, NJ

Blogger Interview: Marinell Montales

This past weekend we had the pleasure of meeting fellow JC’er and blogger, Marinell who runs Jersey City’s first street style blog, Downtown, Natch!

Marinell, who moved to moved to Jersey City 8 years ago, freelances in graphic design and social media. On the weekends, she also works at the Warehouse Cafe, in Jersey City’s Powerhouse Arts District, which is where we met and got to talking. And natch, by the end of our conversation, the cameras came out for some fun photos #bloggerlife.

So how did the idea for Downtown, Natch! come about? Marinell explains that she originally started a blog with a friend but with their differing schedules and a new job, the blog became hard to update.  After investing in a camera and the desire to continue blogging, she decided to start a new project on her own - a street style blog to put Jersey City style on the map.

For people looking to get snapped on the streets of downtown JC, here’s what captures Marinell’s eye. She’s not necessarily into shooting trends, but looks for uniqueness and creativity. Something with character, but most of all an outfit that conveys a sense of pride in one’s appearance.

I like well put-together looks… When people take time into presenting themselves and it looks thought-out.

Marinell also admits that she’s no fashion expert when it comes to designers and industry terms but her background in graphic design gives her a keen eye for aesthetics. She’s more interested in the “how you wear it” than the “what you wear” aspect of personal style.

When taking photos, I decided against asking what brands or labels people are wearing… It’s really about the overall look and feel of an outfit. It can be high end designer or thrift…but it has to have style.

She prefers to let the outfit speak for itself. It’s this style of blogging that makes Downtown, Natch! relatable and appeal to the average fashion conscious person.

When it comes to Marinell’s own sense of style, she has a harder time putting it into exact words. It’s a good thing then that her outfit spoke for itself. A casual green parka, bright blue v-neck, and an easy pair of black jeans - relaxed, but still stylish and put together.  But like the people she chooses to photograph, Marinell adds her own “something extra” to the look with bold accessories. In this case, a few statement bracelets and necklaces, including a necklace from one of Jersey City’s own designers - Swallow and the Swift.

So what’s next for Downtown, Natch? More photos and a new season for fashion.

I’m looking forward to spring and warmer weather. I want to be able to go outside of the usual Grove Street area and find more people to photograph. Especially more girls. It’s been hard to get women to stop and pose for a photo during the cold winter. Hopefully the spring weather will change that.”

Marinell’s hopeful that the the blog will continue to gain more attention in the coming months and even has plans to really mobilize the fashion community in Jersey City with talks of fashion showcases and maybe even some press events in the future.

As we continued to chat with Marinell about style, Jersey City, and her blog, it should come as no surprise that we couldn’t end our time together without asking Marinell one last question - something about #menswear. Specifically, what does Marinell look for in a well-dressed man?

I love layering. The mix of textures and patterns… even just a sweater over a button down… It has a confident look to it. Like you know how to dress and you put thought into it…

Couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Check out Marinell’s blog, Downtown, Natch! here.

No time = old pics. Here’s a good one of Dusty touching himself. #archives

The Outdoor Man
Luckily NYC has been having great weather the past few days. Cool fall temperatures but not too cold that you have to wear a coat all the time. We are definitely taking advantage of this and layering up with chunky knits and flannels for a really outdoorsy look.
We took this shot up on our roof again. I know. I know. But its become our favorite backdrop. We were lucky enough to get David Beckham to model for us. LOL. But for real, I think Dustin looks like him with the knit cap? Right?? Anyway, the sun did pretty cool things to the pic. There’s some lens flare in there but methinks it works.

Bright Winter
I feel like most people, guys especially, tend to wear darker colors in the colder months. This winter we’re going to try adding color to switch things up. Also really like the mixed patterns going on, especially plaid! Plaid’s still in right?
